About Exeter Church

We exist to be a beating heart for the city of Exeter. We want everyone, whoever they are and whatever their story, to know God’s love.

People have been worshipping at St Matt’s since Victorian times and, though the needs of our community and the city have changed, we continue to seek ways to best serve those needs.

In 2016, a group from Exeter Network Church started worshipping at St Matt’s, building growing community and developing its local outreach.

Then, in 2019, the Bishop of Exeter, with backing from the Church Revitalisation Trust (CRT) and support from the Church of England’s Strategic Development Funding (SDF), welcomed a new team from across the HTB Network to transform St Matt’s and focus particularly on mission towards young families, youth and students.

As part of our vision, we want to reach out and draw-in those outside the church, meeting people where they are, and giving them a relevant and accessible experience of God’s love for them.

We want to send people out, equipped and strengthened to make a difference in their families, communities and workplaces.
